In the Forest of the Night

A lot of things went into this print.

Firstly, the image is an homage to the wonderful , and her epic fantasy webcomic, "The Meek." Definitely on the MUST READ list. So go read it!
The creatures are characters in the comic, and the illustration refers to a battle which is implied, though not (yet?) shown, in the narrative.

I had planned on this image a little while before I signed on for the Opposition Print Exchange hosted by Julia Taylor of Madison, Wisconsin. The theme of the exchange was, as the title suggest, opposition, so I put two and two together and created this etching for both the exchange and `alexds1. This is my second etching ever using ferric, and I was a lot more satisfied with how it turned out. Of course, I owe a lot to my printing partner, , who also had a piece in the exchange, and is also a fan of The Meek.

Of course, I have to comment on the title--The Tyger was my favorite poem when I was a little kid. My dad would read it to me before bed--that and The Rime of the Ancient Mariner (during which I rarely stayed awake). Needless to say I liked Blake in my youth better than Coleridge. I don't know enough of Coleridge these days to say that still is true, but Blake is pretty darn awesome.
